Dubai Doo Do
I have some catching up to do after my break but today's news about the opening of the Burj Dubai seemed a good topic about which to return to the bikesandbuildings blogosphere. Predicatably enough, and as with most things Dubai, I dislike this building quite intently. Here's a few reasons why:
>Floors 160–206 are Mechanical. Yes, that's 46 floors of mechanical. How sustainable? What a waste!
>Design Architect Adrian Smith told the BBC that the building "is as good a building as I could get". What an endorsement!
>"Outside, and at a cost of Dh 800 million (US$217 million), a record-setting fountain system... shoots water 150 m into the air, accompanied by a range of classical to contemporary Arabic and world music. On 26 October 2008 Emaar announced that based on results of a naming contest the fountain would be called the Dubai Fountain." What an imagination...

46 floors of mechanical servicing? Really?! Or do I misunderstand you?
ReplyDeletesorry- should have posted my source. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Burj_Khalifa
ReplyDeleteThey've changed the table since to say floors 160 and above Mechanical- but there are 206 floors. Not to mention the MEP floors at 155, 135-8, 109-10, 73-5, 40-42, 17-18 and basement. A shocker.
